“Ukraine’s experience in implementation of social reforms draw the attention of Indonesia, a country of natural resources. Ukraine can offer research and development as well as practical experience in coal mining, chemical industry, engineering and other spheres. The most important now for our cooperation is to eliminate the barriers that prevent increasing the turnover volume between our countries,” the people’s deputy said.
The participants of the meeting also discussed the content of the memorandum on Ukraine-Indonesia cooperation. Volodymyr Vecherko expressed his hopes that this document should be filled with practical content and should include a road map with specific steps in expanding areas of cooperation.
Surahman Hidayat stressed that this cooperation should be applicatory and should become an example for cooperation with other countries of Southeast Asia.
Speaking about expanding cooperation on an inter-parliamentary level, Surahman Hidayat expressed his interest in learning about Ukraine’s experience in implementing social initiatives aimed at supporting motherhood, children and youth.
“We would like to get to know the experience of the Committee on Family Matters, Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism and of the Committee on Social Policy and Labour as well as the experience of specialized Ministries regarding the implementation of reforms aimed at improving social standards,” he said.
Volodymyr Vecherko stressed that Indonesia is the key partner for Ukraine in Southeast Asia; and that development of bilateral trade and economic as well as humanitarian relations will be beneficial for both countries.
The Parties discussed the issue of the visit of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to Indonesia planned for February, 2014.
“Inter-parliamentary and inter-governmental work groups will do everything possible to make the visit of the President of Ukraine to Indonesia not just a formality but a significant event on the way of expanding the cooperation between our countries,” the participants of the meeting claimed.
